The process of moving

Moving was a lot more work than I remembered! It had been almost 14 years since we last moved though. It was also different this time because we had this house to sell. We reached out to our neighbor Rachel White to be our realtor. She and her husband Beau were great to work with and took care of all the details of selling.

At the end of June we began to get the house ready to stage. We started packing up some things we didn't need and taking out the excess furniture. The Frosts were great to let us use half of their garage for storage.  We needed our garage mostly empty for the showings.

Kev spent a lot of time patching, painting holes and cleaning.  I did a lot of cleaning too.  The most daunting job for me was cleaning and reorganizing the pantry.

As we were cleaning we came across little treasures like this.  Parker had written his name in pencil on the wall in our bedroom. He probably did this when he was four years old from the looks of his handwriting.

A photographer came and took pictures of the house on Monday June 28th. We had to have everything clean and looking good. When I went to inspect Kenna's room I saw and laughed at what she put up on her letter board. It said "Freaking Lit House For Sale"!  I hope it made the potential buyers that walked through our house smile. Rachel put our house on the MLS in the afternoon on Tuesday June 29th. In an hour we already had three people scheduled to show it to that night.  Our family went to dinner and just hung out while it was being showed. We had been told that the market had slowed down and we were just happy we had some showings. We also had an open house scheduled for Saturday July 3rd. Rachel contacted us later that night and told us we had two really great offers! We were happily surprised. We spent the next couple of days negotiating back and forth between the two buyers.  Then our house went under contract that Thursday.  We were happy with the offer and didn't need to have the open house anymore. I was relieved because keeping the house clean for showings was exhausting. It also didn't help that I was sick with a bad head cold during that whole week.

On July 30th we met at the Title Company to sign papers for our new home. Kev refers to this process as "signing our lives away"! We chose to work with our neighbor Corey Calder's mortgage company.  He was great to work with and went above and beyond to help make things easier for us. He was also there with us when we signed.  They even gave us the keys to our new house that day!  Kev and I celebrated by getting drinks from Sodalicious. Then it was back to packing. It was crunch time by then and we had less than 24 hours to finish packing everything. I honestly don't know how we did it all in time. My bestie Brekke was sweet and brought us dinner that night. It was delicious and extra appreciated since I had packed up most of the kitchen by then.

Saturday July 31st was our moving day. It was awesome to see all the good friends and neighbors that came to help us move!  We had a good turnout and some helped us make multiple trips back and forth. Luckily, our new house is only about 5 minutes away from the other one.

Kev rented this giant U-Haul for the day.  We filled it three times with all our belongings. Not to mention the several trips we made with cars.

It was another emotional day for many of us.  Halle was really sad that we were moving farther away from her best friend Maddi.

Kristen told me about how they were crying and saying goodbye to each other.  I need to give a shout out to my awesome friend Kristen.  She showed up at our house an hour before everyone else to help with last minute packing.  She helped me pack up my breakables and load up cars with all the pictures and artwork that I didn't want anyone else touching.  Then after everyone else left she stayed at our new house and helped us get organized.  She put together the kids beds and helped them unpack their toys. It is thanks to her that the kids felt so comfortable for our first night in the new home!

Kev's parents also came and helped us that day.  Sue picked up some pizza and drinks so everyone that helped could eat with us. Kristen took this lovely picture of me eating and drinking at the same time. I'm also wearing my fanny pack. It was the best place to keep my phone, scissors, tape, and Band-Aids for the day.

Kev was working hard lifting, moving, and supervising all day long.  Things went well and we didn't have any furniture that was damaged.

All our old neighbors loved being able to help and also see the new house. Hayden and his friends Mason and Brodey were already having fun playing with the couch cushions in the wide open living room. I hope they feel comfortable coming here like they did to our old house. That is one of hard parts about moving is being farther away from our friends and neighbors that we love so much! We did meet a couple of our new neighbors that day as well. Our neighbor Jon showed up and helped us move in that last truck load. A cute neighbor from down the street named Janice stopped by to welcome us and brought donuts.
My Dad and Loni came by that night to bring us dinner from Panda Express. It was our first meal we ate together in the new house. It was nice of them to take care of dinner so we didn't have to worry about it. Once everyone left it was nice to relax and get somewhat settled in.  We are really going to miss our old neighborhood! We lived there for almost fourteen years. It is actually the longest I've lived anywhere in my whole life.  Our kids essentially grew up there. We are excited to be in our new house too! It was a process that took over a year. It's nice to finally be moved in! We are looking forward to making new friends and memories at our new house!

Bear Lake

We went camping near Bear Lake with our neighbors Sunday July 25-27th! It was our first time camping at this site and it was great.  I loved all the pine trees and shade. Not long after we arrived the Calders little boy Ethan went missing.  He is only a couple years old. We all immediately began searching for him. Hayden actually was the one who found him.  We were all relieved and I was so proud of Hayden for saving the day!

The next morning we headed to the Idaho side of the lake. This was our set up with all the families. The Hydes, Andersons, Calders, Woudens, Bakers, and Lindseys all came. A big shout out to the Lindsey family for planning and inviting us all!

The Lindseys introduced us to a new game called Bottle Bash. Parker had fun playing with Scott and Tom.
We brought our kayaks and Paige and Addy had the best time exploring together.

All the little kids adored Halle. This is little Ethan that she was hanging out with.

I discovered this giant sand creation up the beach from us.  Someone had put a lot of time and detail into creating it.
Kev spent most of his time driving kids around on the waverunners and pulling them on the tube.

The kids spent hours digging and making their own hot tub.

We were all happy that the Bakers could come with us again. It was our third year going to Bear Lake together. I'm glad this is becoming a tradition!

Halle was really missing Maddi who was at band camp and couldn't make it. She created this sand person of Maddi. We were also really missing Kenna! It was a little strange not having her with us. We even drove right by Utah State on our way there.  It felt like she should just be at her dorm on campus.  It is definitely going to take some getting used to.  We do know that she is where she should be right now. We are looking forward to facetiming with her when we get back.

We stopped at the Bear Cave for shakes on the way back. We can't get enough shakes when we are at Bear Lake!
We went back to the beach the next day.  The kids wanted me to come see this sand mound that they made. It was actually Hayden buried in sand.  The bucket was where his head was sticking out.

He was stuck and it took them awhile to dig him back out again.

Kristen took this cute picture of Parker carrying Addy back to shore.  I love it when my kids are sweet to each other!
I was so happy that Brekke and her family came up for the day! We had fun hanging out and talking. We convinced her to try going for a ride on the tube. Kristen said that Brekke screaming on the tube was the highlight of her day! Sherry even flew out of the tube at one point. She was a good sport about it.
We made another stop to get shakes at Le Beaus. It was my first time ordering onion rings there and they were delicious. I was not ready to head back home after this. We are moving on Saturday and only have three days to finish packing up our whole house!

Mckenna's MTC experience

Sister Foster started her MTC experience at home with us on Monday July 12th. We always look forward to when her online classes are finished and she can spend time with us! Kev, Kenna, and I usually went on walks around the neighborhood.  It was fun to stop and talk with neighbors along the way.  They always wanted to hear about Kenna's online mission experience.  One night we got back and Sister Swenson was at our house with her mom Ashlee. She had brought Kenna her favorite Quench It drink.  It was her act of service for the day. We love these cute sister missionaries!

Payton returned from his mission to Washington that week. We were grateful that Kenna was able to see him and talk with him before she left.  These two have been friends since they were little.

Mckenna had her p-day on Friday July 16th.  We were able to go visit Grandma Smoot. Kenna is grandma's first great grandchild to serve a mission! She loved being able to talk with Kenna and tell her stories about when she lived in England.

Brooke had her mission farewell on Sunday July 18th.  She even waited a week so that it wouldn't be on the same day as Kenna's.  Addy was wearing Kenna's second missionary tag.  She looked adorable in it. She kept telling everyone that she was Sister Foster's companion.  Kenna is setting the best example for her younger siblings!
We had a fun surprise delivered to our door that week.  Bryson had sent us Crumbl cookies! It was really sweet of him and definitely brought a huge smile to Kenna's face.

We went to the temple on Tuesday night July 20th.  We wanted to go one last time with Kenna before she left to the Provo MTC. The temple will be all finished and open before Kenna comes back home. We were grateful to share this at home MTC experience with her! It really made us feel like we are a part of her mission.  There was an added feeling of peace in our home during those 10 days.

Before we knew it Wednesday July 21st had arrived and it was time to take Kenna to the Provo MTC.  We went to eat lunch at one of our family favorites called Burger Supreme. They even gave Kenna a discount since she is a missionary.  Just one of the many reasons that I love my home town of Provo. Kenna also saw another Elder from her district.  We were able to meet him and his family.  He will be serving in Ghana.
We went to the Provo temple to walk around and take pictures. It was a beautiful summer day.

I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful flowers.  It brought back so many memories of when we lived at my Rosen grandparents house which was just a block away.  Kenna was born while we lived there.  I even used to take her on walks around the temple when she was little.

We took some family pictures and just hung out and talked.

It was hard knowing that we only had a few minutes left with Kenna before dropping her off.

We drove across the street and they directed us to an underground MTC parking garage.  I started crying before I even got out of the car.
I love this picture of all the kids hugging Kenna. It was so hard giving her a hug and knowing it would be the last for 18 months.

This experience was so much harder than dropping her off at college. It was such a bittersweet day.  We were all emotional about having to temporarily say goodbye but also excited for her. Sister Foster was ready and excited to take this next step on her mission! We love our missionary!!

12 years, 12 cakes, 12 parties

Hayden turned twelve years old on Saturday July 17th! We had a fun day celebrating him.

I loved looking back at all his past birthdays starting with his first.

I had fun going with him to get his birthday waffle.

We went to the puppy store and he got to hold and play with Nova.  She was a crazy puppy and kept biting Hayden's shoes and socks.  He eventually had to take them off.  I loved seeing him smile and laugh!
Hayden was so happy that Kenna got done with her online MTC classes and was able to be there for his party.  I love this picture of the two of them!

He also had fun playing on the switch with his other three siblings.

We had a party for him that night with the family. He was showing off his birthday money in this picture.  His favorite gift he got from us was a really fast remote control car.

He made a wish and blew out his candles. This was my last year making him a fancy cake.

His friend Mason came over later and checked out all the cool things Hayden got for his birthday.

When it got dark we did some sparklers. We are happy that Hayden is a part of our family! He has the best laugh! He continues to be creative and is always building something. He recently started mountain biking and joined the junior devo team. We can't wait to see him race in a month.  We love our Hayden!
