We went up to Park city this last weekend. My Dad invited us to come stay with them at the Park City Mariott hotel. The hotel was nice and we were right on the main street. We walked up the main street and made our favorite stop at the chocolate store. We rode in the trolley car back down the street. The kids thought that was the greatest. My Dad and Loni are hosting a student for a couple weeks. She is named Ari and is from Japan. She is so sweet and was excited about everything we did. She is here to learn English and it was fun trying to communicate with her. The second day we were there we went to the Olympic Park. We each paired up with the kids and went down the slide there. It is the first stainless steel slide in North America. We all loved it. Kev took Parker with him and they went really fast. They didn't use the brake at all and almost caught up to Kenna and I. Thanks Dad & Loni for a fun getaway.

Grant Family Reunion

We just went to the Grant family reunion over the weekend. It is a reunion with Kev's mothers side of the family. The reunion is held up in Fruitland Utah at the Reid Ranch. There are always so many fun things for all of us to do. We ride horses, swim,play games, Frisbee golf, miniature golf, paddleboats, fire potato guns, go hot tubbing, and archery. We enjoy the time being with family. We always learn more about our family history and have a family home evening together. We have made many great memories!

We spent pioneer day with my family. We went to the celebration at Provo Pioneer park. They had all kinds of activities and booths. It was cool because the missionaries were in charge of several of them. We walked through the pioneer village and saw a historic school house, stable, and home. We also walked through the museum they have there. I looked at a picture on the wall of the Daughters of Utah pioneers. I was suprised when I saw a picture of Kev's grandma Helen Grant. It was neat to see her picture and realize that she is a pioneer in our own family. We had a fun time together and it was great to spend some time reflecting on our pioneer heritage.

I am so glad that I have a sister. I love my little sister Teenie. I gave her that nickname when we were little and it still works. My kids now call her Aunt Teenie. We always have so much fun together! We have been told so many times that we look alike and sound alike. My uncle Phil says when we are laughing together it sounds almost scary. It is the same laugh coming from different directions. My Mom always dressed us in matching clothes. So now it is fun to dress my two daughters alike. Mckenna is so excited that she got a little sister. She had been telling us Halle would be a girl from the day we found out we were expecting another baby. Mckenna and Halle are about five years apart in age. My sister and I are about five years apart in age too!

Halle turned four months old last week. I took her to her four month checkup and she is doing great. She weighs 13 pounds and is in the 50th percentile for her weight. I was suprised because I thought she would weigh more. But she definitley is doing well and has great thunder thighs. She was 25 inches long and is in the 75th percentile for her length. We are thinking she is going to be long and skinny like her big sister. She gets more vocal everyday. She always lets us know how she is feeling by the noises she makes. If she wants to get our attention she makes loud squaking noises. We love our Halle Jane!

Words of wisdom

Mckenna is always telling us the greatest things. Today I took her to get some ice cream. We had a great time together. She asked if she could have some of my gum in my purse. She then asked what color the gum was. I told her it was white. She then said, "Ohhh, it's like President Hinckley." I asked her why she said that......."well, mom, President Hinckley is white." I had a good laugh about that one. The more I thought about what she said I realized it was really true. It is like they say, out of the mouths of babes.

It is tradition in Kev's family to go up to their cabin in Kamus, Ut. They have had the cabin for years and Kev has been going there since he was a little boy. The kids love to be there too! They get to ride the horses, cruise on the gator, put around on the tractor, swing, and have fun. The weather was perfect this year. It was overcast and so it wasn't so hot. It was still suprisingly green and it felt wonderful to be outside. It was Halles first time to experience everthing up at the cabin. One cool thing was that we saw a little fawn. Uncle Dave called us over to see it. The fawn was just resting right by his cabin deck. It just sat there and let us look at it. The kids thought it was fun to see "Bambi" up close. We had a fun day!

We are so glad that Cody and Lisa decided to have kids. So now our kids have two cousins Tucker & Aubrey. Kev and I love being an Aunt and Uncle! Our only complaint is that our niece and nephew live in Maryland. So we don't get to see them that often. They came into town this week and we were able to spend some time with them. It was the first time that we met our niece Aubrey. It was great to hold her and see her wild red hair. Tucker was so cute and let me hold him a lot. (this is a big deal because he doesn't sit still very long) It was great to get our kids together and watch them play!

Our little family went to the Stadium of Fire this year. We had a great time even though Halle cried almost the entire time. She didn't like the yelling, loud noises, and shaking bleachers. So we learned a good lesson from it. The program had a really nice tribute to the soldiers serving our country. They had the families of those serving our country seated up front in a special section. They put some of the soldiers on web cam so they could see and talk to their families. It was really special. We enjoyed listening to Brooks & Dunn and realized that we knew a few of their songs. Mckenna and Parker had a good time. Parker was moving to the music and Kenna was in complete awe listening to the Disney music as the fireworks went off. Halle even woke up for the fireworks and sat and watched with her big round eyes. We are proud to be Americans!

We had lunch with my Rosen side of the family this fourth of July. I talked my Grandma into making Paella. It is a spanish dish that has rice, chicken, seafood, peas and a great flavor. My Grandparents have lived and served a mission in Spain. They know how to cook it just right. So thanks to my Grandma we had a wonderful meal. It was great to be in the backyard and enjoy eachothers company.

Hiking Mt. Timpanogos Part 1

On Saturday I took some of our scouts (the ones who got up at 5:30 am) to go hike Mt. Timpanogos. What an awesome hike! We arrived at the Aspen Grove trailhead at 7:00am and started out.
We hiked up the beautiful Primrose Cirque around Robert's horn and then came the this beautiful amplitheatre with the mountains and snow fields... only half way to the peak.
We arrived at Emerald Lake and it was absolutely gorgous. It was the perfect day to hike. Cool temps and lots of blue sunny sky. The picture below is of Emerld Lake with the famous Timp Glacier in the background.
Right above the lake there is the Timpanogos shelter that was built back in 1958. It has only a fireplace in it and thats it. Pretty cool to see this again. I met a kid who had for his Eagle project installed the windows you can see in the picture. Pretty cool stuff!
We were resting here enjoying the scenery when I heard rocks falling aff by one of the cliffs. We looked over there and saw a herd of 5 mountain goats walking along the base of the cliff. Those animals are amazing!

Hiking Mt. Timpanogos Part 2

Once we left the stone shelter we made our way across the timp basin up to the shelter. The last leg to the saddle was some intense rock scrambling. I can't believe mountain goats just live up here in the peaks.
Once at the saddle I looked around and spotted 2 goats on the peaks to the north of the saddle. Too cool!
From there we started the trek to the peak. This was 45 minutes of the most intense stair stepping. Wow... feel the burn! The picture is of the deacons advisor David Misiego (from Spain) and one of the boys Dylan. No they aren't really standing on the edge... there is a trail there!
We made it to the top with all the boys still intact and were about to sign our names in the Timp. Peak registry. Number 3 for me baby!! It was the first time for everyone else. Someone right before us wrote it was their 70th time or something! WOW!
This picture is looking from the peak bask toward Heber and Deer Creek Res. Awesome view of Emerald Lake and the glacier flowing into it. If you look close you can see the stone shelter by Emerald lake too!

Hiking Mt. Timpanogos Part 3

From the top we headed around the south west face of the mountain to go slide down the glacier. This was a shot a few minutes after I left the peak.
The glacier was the highlight of the trip. You sit on your bum and use your feet to steer and you slide all the way down the mountain! What a riot! Some of the boys were going so fast that we we're just laughing so hard we could hardly breath! What a fun way to head down the mountain!
One at the bottom I snapped this shot looking up the glacier from where I stopped. So much fun!
The rest of the hike was pretty much just really hot. We got down the cars at 4:30 pm and headed home. Slept like a baby that night. Don't think I have ever been so sore! lol
