Carl Bloch Exhibit...

Kev and I went on a date to see the Carl Bloch exhibit over the weekend. It is being displayed at the BYU museum of art until May 7th. It was a very impressive exhibit. I have somewhat of an art background. I took art classes in high school and was a fine arts major at college. I knew some of the history of Carl Bloch. BYU magazine had a great article about his life and paintings that I had read prior to going to the show. They also have ipads that you can rent for three dollars to give you a personal guide. We just walked through on our own and read the signs by the paintings. I was surprised by the dimensions of his paintings. Some of them were about ten feet tall. The images of the savior are life size and they have a powerful effect on you. The picture of Christ in Gethsemane is one of my favorites. His portraits portray such emotion that you feel like you are a part of them. In some of them the people seem to be looking right at you and beckoning you to take part. I always enjoy getting up close and seeing the brush strokes that make up the painting. His paintings are powerful because they have such a high contrast between dark and light. I also enjoyed seeing some of his other portrait paintings. Some of them were done when he was only 21 years old. His talent at such a young age is impressive. I highly recommend this exhibit. My husband who doesn't have any art background enjoyed it as well. It made for a really great date!

Hayden has grown up a lot lately. He always wants to be doing what Parker is doing. He also discovered Parker's Hulk gloves. He loves to put them on and run around the house. He get's a kick out of the boxing sounds. He likes to punch Parker and they have wrestling matches together.

It cracks me up everytime I see him wearing them. I swear that they are as big as he is. The other night Hayden put them on while we were having family prayer. We are in the middle of the prayer when we here them saying "HULK SMASH"! We all couldn't stop laughing.

Hayden still loves his dump truck. He was giving his cousin Cole a lift. It was great seeing them drive around together.

He also had his first haircut.(it was really just a trim) He was excited to sit in the chair like Parker and get his haircut from Dad. It was big smiles from him and he held still most of the time.

Hayden's two favorite words right now are outside and slide. He is tall enough now to climb the ladder by himself and go down the slide. Parker was waiting to catch him at the bottom.

Halle's 4th birthday!!

Our Halle babes turned four on Wednesday. She had a fun day helping pick out her balloons and get ready for her party. She chose out a huge balloon that looked like a princess crown. She is in the princess stage right now.

Halle entertained us while the family began to arrive for the party. She is very flexible and has no problem with the middle splits.

Then she showed us this trick where she stands on one leg with the other in the air.

Halle was very excited to open up her presents. She had just opened her gift from Grandma Loni and Grandpa. They got her a singamajig. I think they are strange looking but Halle really wanted one. She always is drawn to them every time we go to walmart.

I made Halle a daisy cake this year. Halle actually helped me make the cake. She loves to cook and be my helper in the kitchen. She helped pour the ingredients in the bowl and mix it up. I made this same cake for Kenna one year.

Halle was really happy about her new lip gloss. She was sharing some with her cousin Aubrey. They had a lot of fun playing with all her new toys.

Halle dressed up in her new Rapunzel outfit for the night. She was surrounded by all her new toys and perfectly content. We had such a fun party! We love you Halle!
